Visitors Center to host book signings

The Biloxi Visitors Center will host two book signings over the next two Saturdays, featuring a host of local authors.

The first, planned for this weekend, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature
Alan and Joan Santa Cruz, “Biloxi Postcard History”; Jane Shambra, “Biloxi Postcard History” and
“Images of America – Biloxi”;
Edmond Boudreaux, “The Seafood Capital of the World”; Julian Brunt, “The Biloxi Seafood Cookbook”; and, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.,
Ken Murphy, “Mississippi State of Blues,”
“My South Coast Home,” and
“Photographs of Mississippi.”

On Nov. 17, the book signings, which also will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature

Charles Sullivan,
“Gulf Coast Album: A Journey in Historic Photographs 1899-2011” and
“Hurricanes of the Mississippi Gulf Coast: Three Centuries of Destruction”;
Sonya Miller, “Old Biloxi Recipes Cookbook”; Gail Bullock, “The Great Southern Pecan Cookbook” and “Simple Crab Cookery”; and, from noon to 3 p.m., Philip Levin, “Rocking Chairs and Afternoon Tales,” “Teacakes and Afternoon Tales” and “Magnolia Blossoms and Afternoon Tales.”


Drive to feed needy at Thanksgiving now underway

Law enforcement’s drive to provide Thanksgiving Day meals to the less fortunate of Harrison County is now underway.

Meals may be requested by calling one of these agencies:

Meals can be picked up or delivered, and the deadline to request meals is
Thursday, Nov. 15.

Volunteers wanting to help package meals should report to the Lyman Community Center,
13472 Highway 49, Gulfport, MS at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.

Volunteers wishing to deliver meals should report to the Lyman Community Center at 10 a.m.

Those wanting to make a monetary donation to help underwrite the cause can mail donations to Harrison County Volunteers to Feed the Needy, 10451 Larkin Smith Drive,
Gulfport, MS 39503.

Blood drive to help city employee planned for Saturday

Family and friends of Scott Richardson, a 20-year employee of the City of Biloxi who is facing a liver transplant, will be hosting a blood drive on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Cedar Lake United Methodist Church, at 12332 Cedar Lake Road, Biloxi.

Richardson is a harbormaster with the city and is a 1981 graduate of St. Martin High School.

The blood drive, with Ochsner Blood Bank, will offer donors a Saints Blood Bank T-shirt, and a chance to win two plaza-level tickets to a New Orleans Saints home game.

Donors, who must provide a photo ID, should eat a healthy meal before donating. Individuals taking medication for high blood pressure or cholesterol also may donate.
