City seeks youngsters for Start Smart program

The Parks and Recreation Department has 20 openings for a free program designed to help prepare youngsters to particpate in organized sports.

Registration for the Start Smart program will be weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Recreation Office, 380 Hiller Drive.

The program is open to children ages 3 to 5, with and without disabilities, and their parents or a responsible adult. Sessions begin on Tuesday, March 20 and continue for five following Tuesdays, ending on April 27. Each will be conducted from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Donal Snyder Community Center, 2520 Pass Road. Participation is free for Biloxi residents and $25 for non-Biloxi residents.

The Start Smart Program helps prepare children for organized sports using Koosh products. This program teaches children basic baseball skills such as throwing and catching the ball, batting and running, which are needed to play the sport.
