City seeks nominees for Sports Hall of Fame

The City of Biloxi is now seeking nominations for the 2013 class of the Biloxi Sports Hall of Fame, which will hold induction ceremonies during an August weekend that will include a Shrimp Bowl football doubleheader.

The 2013 inductees follow-up on last year’s tremendously successful induction ceremony, where more than 300 people turned out to see a class of nearly three dozen inducted into the hall. The ceremony at the Biloxi Civic Center marked the first time in 23 years that the city had added to the roster of 104 individuals who were already in the Biloxi Sports Hall of Fame.

This year’s ceremony will take place on Sunday, Aug. 25 at the civic center. The day before, the Shrimp Bowl will be at Milner Stadium in Gulfport.

Nominations for the 2013 hall of fame class must be received no later than July 1.

Said Parks and Recreation Director Sherry Bell: “There will be a limited number of inductees this year. We’re asking people to nominate individuals – athletes, coaches, officials or anyone – who have contributed to athletics in Biloxi.”
