We’re in the heat of summer, but Biloxi City Council President Kenny Glavan says he and his fellow councilmembers will be cold and wet Tuesday afternoon after the Biloxi City Council meeting.
That’s because Glavan has accepted a challenge for the City Council to take part in the “ice bucket challenge,” a social-media stunt that has gone viral and in the process raised millions of dollars for researching a cure for Lou Gehrig’s disease and any number of causes.
It’s a simple concept: Take a bucket of ice water, dump it over your head, record it and post the video on social media. Donations are then made. Nearly everybody’s who’s anybody has done it.
And now, the Biloxi City Council, on the front steps of City Hall no less.
“I accept the challenge and challenge the rest of the Biloxi City Councilmembers to join me on the steps of Biloxi City Hall this Tuesday with an ice bucket,” Glavan wrote on his Facaebook page today. “All citizens and city employees are welcomed along with any neighboring city/county officials from Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula that dare to be as brave as Biloxi.”
The dunking will take place probably around 3:30 or 4 Tuesday afternoon, shortly after the city council’s 1:30 p.m. meeting.
