City Council meets this afternoon

The Biloxi City Council this afternoon will be asked to approve the placement of three Mississippi cottages – two in east Biloxi and one on Back Bay – as well as approve the relocation of a billboard at U.S. 90 and Rodenberg Avenue, and a conditional use and variances to allow a West Biloxi group home for the Ocean Springs-Long Beach Interfaith Hospitality Network.

The council will meet this afternoon at 1:30 at City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.

The meeting also will include the first reading of an ordinance to allow a 210-unit apartment complex off Popp’s Ferry Road, which will serve as a replacement for the front-beach Santa Maria Del Mar retirement home.

The cottages on the council’s agenda would be on Oak and Claiborne streets in east Biloxi, and on Haise Street on Back Bay. The interfaith group’s proposed group home, which would accommodate families for stays of up to 120 days, would be at 136 Pine Grove Ave.

Also on the agenda, Councilman Bill Stallworth is proposing to provide $3,000 to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Sports Commission for promotion of the upcoming soccer championships being sponsored by Keesler Air Force Base.
