City Council meetings; Mayor’s musical message

The Biloxi City Council, which had originally planned to hold a special meeting on building codes this week before moving it to Jan. 12, now plans to hold the meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

The public meeting, which begins at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Municipal Building, is a chance for councilmembers to consider updates to the city’s current building code.

Immediately after the building-code meeting council members plan to discuss a proposal to increase slips fees at Biloxi’s public harbors and marinas. The increased fees would help offset the city’s cost of providing electricity for boat owners. For background on the issue, click here.

Holidays: Non-emergency municipal offices in Biloxi will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Christmas holidays.

Mayor’s holiday video: It was back in December 2007 that Mayor A.J. Holloway taped a holiday video message – sort of – for basketball fans at the Gulf Coast Classic that year at the Coast Coliseum. To see Holloway’s 45-second message, which still rings true today, click here.
