The annual Biloxi Children’s Mardi Gras Walking Parade, a chance for youngsters to become acquainted with Carnival, is less than a month away, and now is the time to sign up.
Children age 12 and under are invited to participate in the Saturday, Feb. 7 parade, either walking, or on bikes or skates, or being pushed in strollers or wagons. No motorized vehicles are allowed in the parade.
Theme of this year’s parade is “Coastal State of Mind” and children and families are encouraged to wear costumes or decorate bikes, wagons or strollers in celebration of the things and events which make the Coast a wonderful place to live, such as the lighthouse, fresh seafood, the sand beach, diverse ethnic cultures,” according to the sponsoring organizations, the City of Biloxi, the Mardi Gras Museum and Gulf Coast Carnival.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Howard Avenue at the I-110 overpass. It will travel east on Howard, to Reynoir Street and turn south, ending at the Mardi Gras Museum, where a celebration will include a chance to meet and be photographed with the 2014 Gulf Coast Carnival Association Royal Court. Additionally, a costume and float contest will be conducted, along with other Mardi Gras art activities. Refreshments also will be served.
