Children’s Mardi Gras parade seeks entrants

The City of Biloxi, the Mardi Gras Museum and Gulf Coast Carnival Association invite children ages 12 and younger to participate in the annual Children’s Mardi Gras walking parade on Feb. 13.

This non-motorized parade features bikes, skates, skateboards, scooters and wagons.

Children are encouraged wear costumes and decorate their bikes or wagons using this year’s theme, “New York, New York.” Costumes and floats will be judged according to the theme.

The parade will begin at noon under the I-110 overpass on Howard Avenue. It will continue east on Howard through the Vieux Marche Mall, turn south on Lameuse Street and end at the Biloxi Town Green. Participants should arrive under the overpass to sign in before noon.

A limited amount of throws will be available for the children. Children are encouraged bring additional throws. Parents and guardians may walk with children. In fact, children ages 9 and younger are required to have a parent/guardian walk with them.

Applications will be distributed through all Biloxi schools or can be picked up at the Recreation Office in Hiller Park and the Downtown Services Office, 932 Howard Ave. at the Bond-Grant House. You can also receive an application by click here. Applications need to be turned into the Downtown Services Office or mailed to P.O. Box 429, Biloxi, MS. 39533, by Friday, Feb. 5.

At the end of the parade, the Biloxi Parks and Recreation Department will provide free refreshments for parade participants. A costume and float contest for individuals also will be held, with trophies and cash prizes awarded. For more information, call Kay Miller 435-6339 or email kmiller@biloxi.ms.us.
