Children’s Mardi Gras parade rolls Feb. 11

The City of Biloxi, Biloxi Mardi Gras Museum, and Gulf Coast Carnival Association invite children ages 12 and younger to be a part of the Biloxi Children’s Mardi Gras Walking Parade, which takes place Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m.

Participants may walk, bike, skate, or be pushed or pulled in strollers and wagons. No motorized vehicles are allowed.

The theme of the parade is “It’s All in Black and White.” Children and families are encouraged to be in costume and decorate their bikes or wagons in the spirit of the theme, “which celebrates the love of reading and the fascinating characters and faraway places a child can discover through books.” For example, parade organizers say, suggestions for float themes could include Harry Potter riding his broom to Hogwarts or Dorothy discovering OZ.

Applications are available at the Biloxi Visitors Center, Biloxi recreation centers, Gulf Coast Carnival Office, and the Coastal Mississippi Mardi Gras Museum. The forms can be downloaded from the city website at biloxi.ms.us.

Applications must be returned to the child’s school or to the Biloxi Visitors Center, 1050 Beach Blvd., by Friday, Feb. 3.

For more information, call the Biloxi Visitors Center at 228- 374-3105 or email visitor@biloxi.ms.us.
