Make plans: Fireman’s Ball to kick off milestone Fireman’s Day festivities

Fireman’s Day in Biloxi marks 125 years this month, and to commemorate the occasion the West End Hose Co. No. 3, the city’s fire museum, is turning it into a weekend-long celebration, complete with a Fireman’s Ball and Fireman’s Day Parade.

Dozens of fire trucks are expected to roll through the streets of downtown Biloxi on Saturday, Sept. 19, but the weekend will kick off with a Fireman’s Ball, complete with a 14-piece orchestra, on Friday night, Sept. 18, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Biloxi Civic Center.

William Sackett’s Dance Time USA Radio Orchestra, offering a repertoire from swing to modern tunes, will entertain, thanks to the sponsorship of Oscar Renda Contracting, the firm rebuilding the streets of east Biloxi. In fact, the firm’s owner, Rudy Renda, will serve as celebrity parade marshal for the weekend.

Tickets for the Fireman’s Ball – $15 per person or $25 per couple – are on sale now at any Biloxi fire station or the Biloxi Visitors Center.

“There is a lot of tradition in the Biloxi Fire Department, and we’re going to be celebrating that with the Fireman’s Ball and Fireman’s Day parade,” said Fire Chief Joe Boney. “It’s not just about firefighters, either. This is a chance for the community to come out and be a part of the Fireman’s Ball, to have a great time, and, of course, then there’s the parade. Everyone loves a parade, and we’ll have fire trucks from along the Mississippi Gulf Coast rolling through downtown Biloxi.”
