Bring an unwrapped toy or gift to the Biloxi-Gulfport game

Biloxi Public Schools invite fans attending the November 8th Biloxi-Gulfport football game to bring at least one unwrapped gift to donate to the Gulf Coast Women’s Center for Nonviolence.

Receptacles will be placed just inside the gates at the Biloxi Stadium. Officials at Biloxi Schools ask that fans provide gifts that would be appropriate for children ages 3-17 and for adult women. Toys and clothes of all sizes are needed for the holiday season for the children and their mothers currently receiving assistance from the Women’s Center.

“This is an opportunity for Biloxi Schools to once again exhibit the commitment we have to the children and families across our city,” explained Arthur McMillan, Superintendent of Biloxi Schools. “And we know Gulfport Schools will be happy to join with us in this effort.

“All of us certainly understand the need in our community to assist the innocent victims of domestic abuse,” added McMillan. “Sadly, this is something that occasionally arises, affecting our students and their teachers and counselors. It is a problem that affects every city and every school district on the Coast.

“We expect a big crowd for the annual rivalry game with Gulfport and this gives fans of both our schools a great opportunity to help the Women’s Center with some of its needs as the holidays approach.”

Sandra K. Morrison, Executive Director of the Women’s Center, said the gift drive initiated by Biloxi Public Schools comes at an especially needy time for her client families.

“As we all know, the holidays are a difficult time emotionally for families in distress,” Morrison said. “We have our own gift drive each year to try to provide the basics for our clients during a challenging time. This Give-a-Gift Program will greatly assist us in meeting our goals for the upcoming season by helping those in need enjoy the spirit of the season.”
