Biloxi water system gets excellent report card from health department

Biloxi residents have known for years that the city has the lowest water rates on the Coast, but a new report from the Mississippi State Department of Health says that the city also has one of the best-run water systems in the state.

Biloxi received a 4.7 of a possible 5 rating in the state’s annual ratings of public water systems for three of the city’s five water systems. Two water systems acquired by Biloxi after annexation received slightly lower ratings.

The state’s criteria for grading systems examines three areas – technical, managerial and financial. Ratings are compiled in an annual report written by the Mississippi State Department of Health. The most recent ratings covered the period from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002.

“We’re very proud of this report card,” Mayor A.J. Holloway said. “This says a great deal about the excellent job the city is doing in this important area.”
