Biloxi Police host family-friendly festival against crime

The Biloxi Police Department, the Biloxi Fire Department and other first responders will offer home and personal safety tips during a free family-friendly festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Point Cadet Plaza.

The annual Biloxi Community Festival Against Crime allows the public to get a close-up look at the city’s emergency-response equipment, meet police officers and firefighters and receive useful safety tips in a fun-filled environment.

“We want our citizen to know our police officers and see what services we provide,” said Biloxi Police Officer Joey Payne. “We want everyone to come out, relax and have a good time.”

Visitors will have a chance to spend the afternoon learning more about operations in the police and fire departments, see their high-tech equipment, and learn how to avoid becoming a victim of crime and preventing fires in the home.

The event will feature games such as a kids firefighter obstacle course, door prizes, giveaways, child safety check points, police canine demonstrations, and free food.

Among the first responders participating in the affair are the Biloxi Police Department’s dive and rescue team, bomb squad, and the traffic and bicycle divisions.  Members of the Biloxi Fire Department and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources also be showing off emergency vehicles and equipment.
