Biloxi houses saved from wrecking ball

The commercial corridor on Division between I-110 and the new Keesler gate at Forrest means some decades-old Biloxi houses on Division have to be demolished. “Or do they?” asked Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich.

Instead of demolishing five vacant houses — one without a roof — the Gilich Administration floated the idea of relocating the homes.

Entrepreneurs scooped up four of the five — at prices from $2,500 to $5,000 — plus relocation costs.

And money from the sales is enough to cover the demo of the fifth house, a roof-less structure, as well as demo of a former medical office building.

The proposed transactions are being reviewed and will be presented to the City Council soon for approval.
