Biloxi Excel By Five offers ‘Trip to Wonderland’

Biloxi Excel By Five is inviting children birth to 5 years of age to “Trip to Wonderland” on Saturday, June 29th from 10 a.m. to noon at Lopez School, 140 St. John Ave., Biloxi.

Children can participate in fun hands on activities and visit with Alice in Wonderland characters.

From 10 to 11:15 a.m. children can take pictures with the white rabbit and those age 3 to 5 can take part in a tea party with the Mad Hatter. The tea party will take place from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

This event is free to the community.

Parks and Rec: Events of note

Here are a few upcoming events coordinated by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and compiled by staffer Cecilia Dobbs Walton:

Juneteenth, Saturday, June 15 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kroc Center, 575 Division Street. There will be a neighborhood picnic at 5:30 p.m., gospel sing off for a $500 prize at 6:30 p.m., an essay and poster contest for individuals age 10 – 18 who submit entries by Friday, June 14 to the Kroc Center, and children and adult activities from 4 to 6 p.m.
Juneteenth is a national celebration established in 1865 in Galveston, Texas to commemorate freedom of African Americans and emphasize education, fun and unity.

— Aloha to Summertime Special Needs Party Friday, June 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Donal Snyder Community Center. Barbecue for all to enjoy and Hawaiian attire is encouraged. RSVP to 228-388-7170.

Thursday, June 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. under the I-110 off of Howard and Hopkins
Event includes: children’s activities, recycling information, gardening booths, cooking instructions and demonstrations, and hourly giveaways.

— Seniors Patriotic Dance, Salute to the Military, Friday, June 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Donal Snyder Community Center
Open to Biloxi residents age 55 and older.
