Biloxi casinos post largest August on record

Biloxi’s eight casinos reported gross gaming revenue of $83.4 million in August, the largest August on record.

The latest figure means that the casino industry in Biloxi has set records in one fashion or another 10 of the past 12 months.

The trend began a year ago when Biloxi casinos posted $95.7 million in gross gaming revenue for the month of September, the largest monthly figure since 1992, when legalized gaming began in Biloxi. A new all-time record was established in July of this year, when Biloxi casinos reported gross gaming revenue of $97.3 million.

Longevity awards: The city employee longevity awards scheduled to be presented during Tuesday’s City Council meeting will be made at the council’s Oct. 2 meeting instead.

At the podium: Mayor A.J. Holloway provided welcoming remarks for the second annual Partners in Long-term Recovery recognition ceremony this morning at the Beau Rivage. Organizations working in the community’s Katrina recovery were recognized. The city’s public affairs manager, meantime, will speak on the mayor’s post-Katina efforts in a presentation titled “Leadership in a crisis” Wednesday before the Mobile chapter of the Medical Group Management Association of Alabama.
