Biloxi begins search for new Public Works director

The City of Biloxi has begun placing advertisements locally and in national trade publications to find a qualified replacement for Public Works Director Jerry Morgan, who is retiring after more than a decade with the city.

The new director will oversee a department that has 90 employees and an annual budget of more than $16 million.

“This is a key position for the city, particularly in light of the tremendous amount of streets and drainage work the city is doing,” Mayor A.J. Holloway said. “We’re looking for someone who has strong administrative and management skills, and preferably someone with public-sector management experience.”

Initial deadline to apply is May 24, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Applicants are asked to submit a letter of introduction, including salary history, and a resume to the city’s Human Resources Department at City Hall or e-mail information to biloxihr@biloxi.ms.us.

Advertisements for the position are being published in The Sun Herald and The Bay Press locally, the Clarion-Ledger statewide, Nation’s Cities Weekly nationwide, and in trade publications for the Mississippi Public Works Association and the American Public Works Association.

The City of Biloxi is seeking qualified applicants for Director of Public Works. The city, which has a population of 54,000, is governed by a strong mayor-council form of government. The Public Works Department consists of 90 employees; FY 2002 combined general and enterprise fund budget is $16.1 million.

The successful applicant should have extensive experience in public works, preferably municipal; including project management and demonstrated administrative and management skills.
