Biloxi A to Z:  R U prepared for hurricane season?

With hurricane season days away, this week’s Biloxi A to Z focuses on how the City of Biloxi is reminding residents to be prepared.

Biloxi residents who live in or near flood-prone areas have just received their yearly four-page flood zone mailout. The guide is part of the city’s continuing effort to educate the public about the dangers of flooding and inform property owners about measures to reduce property damage during an event.

More storm season reminders will be arriving in all Biloxi mailboxes this weekend with the delivery of the June BNews Monthly. The June 2025 issue is the Storm and Flood Preparedness issue. In the 28-page newsletter, readers will find information on the new evacuation zones; shelters; tips on how to create a storm plan for your family; frequently called numbers for local, state, and federal agencies; Coast Transit Authority transportation service; flood zones; flood insurance rates; and easy-to-understand information about the city’s construction permitting process.

The new issue also features general election information, columns from the Biloxi Shuckers, and Biloxi Main Street, a CDBG public notice, random notes, June Trivia, the June Community Calendar, and the history-filled back in the day column by Jane Shambra.

This week’s video also showcases the heartfelt message Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich made to Biloxi’s retiring Chief Administrative Officer Mike Leonard during the Tuesday City Council meeting. There is also a look at the recent ceremony held for the city’s newest landmark, Tyrone’s Barber and Beauty Salon, the weekend forecast and events, and the progress on the Popp’s Ferry extension project.
