Headlining this week’s Biloxi A to Z video is the City of Biloxi inauguration and upgrades at Miramar Park.
Biloxi elected leaders will begin a new four-year term when the oaths of office will be administered to the mayor and City Council on Monday, June 30.
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Biloxi Civic Center on Howard Avenue. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and a reception will follow the ceremony.
Harrison County Justice Court Judge Nick Patano will administer the oath of office to Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich. This will be Mayor Gilich’s third full four-year term, winning his first full term in 2017 and second full term in 2021. He also won a special mid-term election in 2015.
Also being sworn in on Monday will be council members Wayne Gray of Ward 1, Anthony L. Marshall of Ward 2, Mike Nail of Ward 3, Jamie Creel of Ward 4, Paul A. Tisdale of Ward 5, Kenny Glavan of Ward 6, and David Shoemaker of Ward 7.
Over at Miramar Park, upgrades are underway on the playground structure.
The park is currently closed while crews remove the playground structure at the front beach park. The demolition is to make way for a new colorful playground structure and benches.
The nearly $45,000 project will replace the aging play structure that was installed after Hurricane Katrina.
The work is expected to wrap up around the end of July.
Also in this week’s video: the Biloxi Police Department is accepting applications for its Fifth Annual Citizens Police Academy, Biloxi City Council will hold two meetings on Tuesday, July 1, the weekend forecast, a weekend preview, and some feathered visitors to Biloxi City Hall.
