Biloxi, IP to host Southeastern fire chiefs
Hundreds of fire chiefs from across the South will be in town next week for the three-day Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs Conference.
The 88th annual conference will take place at the IP Casino Resort and Spa Tuesday, with nearly 200 fire chiefs and directors from across 10 Southern states attending.
“This conference is usually hosted by larger departments,” Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney said, “but we showed the association that we have a lot to offer. They believed that we’re uniquely qualified to host this conference, and we are excited for this prestigious honor.”
The delegates will be representing departments from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Point Cadet Plaza becoming the hot spot for visiting groups
Hundreds of people in town for conventions this week discovered something that locals already knew: Point Cadet Plaza is the place to be for an outdoor event.
With its large shade-filled pavilion, breezes wafting across the Biloxi Bay, a nearby splash pad and playground for children, and convenient restrooms, it has everything. And don’t forget it’s all set against a backdrop of the gleaming Biloxi Bay Bridge.
Just this week,  Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson welcomed representatives from sheriff’s departments across the state for a shrimp boil, and the Mississippi Rural Water Association held its own  shrimp boil for a hundred visitors attending that state convention. And more events are already on the books.
