Benefit lunch to aid fallen firefighter’s family

Today at lunchtime, the Biloxi Fire Department will be serving fish plates to raise money for the family of fallen firefighter, Darren Endris, who passed away on Jan. 16 from a prolonged illness.

Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested can dine at the Lopez Quave Public Safety Center, 170 Porter Ave., or orders can be made for delivery or pick up.

Price is $8 per plate and the meal includes fish, potato salad and baked beans.  Pulled pork plates and drinks are also available.

To place an order, call the Biloxi Fire Department at 228-435-6200. Orders for delivery must made by 10 this morning.

Endris began his 25-year career in the department in November 1994. Just weeks ago, during an annual awards ceremony, he was awarded the department’s Phil McCabe 5 Bugle Award, also known as the Chief’s Award.

“He was the ideal of what a public servant should be, and he possessed a natural ability to inspire others through this gentle, encouraging actions,” Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney said. “He was dependable, hardworking, and unfailingly steadfast not only in his commitment to serve the citizens of this great City, but also in his allegiance to those men and women with whom he worked.”
