Get ready for a wet weekend, as Tropical Storm Barry is expected to continue its movement toward the west-northwest today before making an eventual turn to the north-northwest early Saturday.
“We’re expecting this to primarily be a rain event for Biloxi, so prepare accordingly and continue to monitor your local weather reports,” Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich said this afternoon.
The Biloxi Parks & Recreation Department has postponed a planned outdoor movie this evening on the Town Green, and a disc golf tournament planned for this weekend at Hiller Park has been pushed to Sunday, July 21. Other events may adjust schedules as needed.
Emergency managers are expecting street flooding, higher tides and strong winds, could spawn weak or brief tornadoes.
Rain: Expect four to six inches of rain through Sunday, possibly causing flash flooding and flooding along rivers and low-lying areas.
Storm surge: Expect 2 to 5 feet above normally dry ground, causing flooding on roadways and in low-lying areas.
Wind: Winds expected to increase tonight through Saturday night. Expect maximum sustained speeds of 20 to 30 mph with 40 and 50 mph gusts through Sunday.
