Barhanovich Park getting a makeover

For years it’s been called Circle Park because it’s rounded by Porter Avenue. A sign says it’s Bay Terrace Park, and for new generations of children growing up near the north end of Porter Avenue near Back Bay, it’s also known as Mark Barhanovich Memorial Park, named for a late civic leader who played in the park as a youngster.

And now, the park is getting a major facelift.

Crews this week removed aging playground equipment and began a process of giving the park a facelift.

“The next phase is leveling out the grounds and improving the drainage system,” said Sherry Bell, the city’s Parks & Recreation Director. “We’ll fill in the dirt areas with grass, and they we’ll be installing a new playground module and resurfacing the tennis courts and basketball court, with the help of Harrison County.”
