Arbor Day run and tree giveaway this weekend

The 30th Annual Arbor Day 5K Run, 1-mile run/walk/roll and quarter-mile ability challenge takes place on Saturday with the 5K run beginning at 9 a.m. and the 1 mile and quarter-mile beginning at 9:45 a.m. at the corner of Lameuse Street and Highway 90 near the Biloxi Town Green.

Late registration will begin an hour before the race at the Biloxi Town Green, 710 Beach Blvd. 

Trophies will be given to overall male and female as well as to the first, second and third place age group males and females. Trophies also will be given to the first, second and third place wheelchairs in the one mile.  Medals will be given to all participants with disabilities.

In addition, 400 trees – White Oak, Yellow Poplar, Black Gum, and Shagbark History –  that were donated by the Professional Arborist Association of Mississippi and the Mississippi Forestry Commission will be given away to race participants following the race. 

The 30th Annual Arbor Day 5K and 1 mile health run/walk/roll is sponsored by the City of Biloxi, the Gulf Coast Running Club and Disability Connection.

News and notes: Council meeting, video, weather

Working progress:  There is a beehive of activity from Porter Avenue to Caillavet Street with work wrapping up at the Lighthouse Pier Parking Lot, Hemphill Construction continuing to install a water line, and Malouf Construction working on an overhead pedestrian walkway.
