And now, we’re off and rolling

The city’s economic engine, the casino resort industry, opened its doors today, also bringing almost 5,000 hotel rooms online as well.

Seven of the city’s eight casinos began opening this morning with all open by mid-afternoon, except for the Beau Rivage, which opens June 1.

The move also puts thousands of employees and suppliers back to work as well.

The Mississippi State Department of Health, meanwhile, reported 255 new cases of the coronavirus were identified statewide in the past 24 hours and 10 new deaths were reported. In Harrison County, four new cases were reported; three were reported in Jackson County and none in Hancock County.

At the casino resorts, social distancing guidelines were in place as well as a host of the safety measures for operators, employees and patrons. It’s all under the guidance of the Mississippi Gaming Commission and operators — and the public — know what is expected.
