A new series, Christmas parades play this month on BTV

Biloxi Television premieres a new series this month with the inaugural episode of “A few moments with…” featuring 103-year-old Irene Schwan.

The sixteen-minute episode, which airs daily this month at 8 a.m., 2 p.m., and 8 p.m., was recorded in November from the Biloxi home of Irene. The 103-year-old, who turns 104 in January, has seen a thing or two over the years and talks about the hustle and bustle of downtown Biloxi back in the day.

Irene grew up on Howard Avenue, the central location of the city at that time.

“I had a bird’s eye view of everything that happened because everything happened on Howard Avenue,” said Irene. “All the stores were there. Whatever you wanted, you had to go to Howard Avenue to buy it.”

In the episode, Irene also talks about living a long and healthy life, swimming in the Mississippi Sound, playing golf, and teaching.

“A few moments with Irene Morice Schwan” is the special presentation for BTV in December. The special presentation segment also includes replays of four city-sponsored parades.

The Christmas on the Water Children’s Walking parade, a nearly three-minute program, airs daily at 8:16 a.m., 2:16 p.m., and 8:16 p.m., followed by the Christmas on the Water Boat Parade at 8:18 a.m., 2:18 p.m., and 8:18 p.m. The Woolmarket parade, which rolls Dec. 10, and the Ward 2 parade, which rolls Dec. 11, will join the BTV lineup on Dec. 12 or so.

BTV is carried on Sparklight 56 or Uverse 99 in Biloxi and at biloxi.ms.us/btv worldwide.
