Party time! Kids’ Mardi Gras fun

The City of Biloxi, Coastal Mississippi Mardi Gras Museum, and Gulf Coast Carnival Association invite children ages 12 and younger to be part of the Biloxi Children’s Mardi Gras Walking Parade, which takes place Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. in Downtown Biloxi.

Participants may walk, bike, skate, or be pushed or pulled in strollers and wagons. No motorized vehicles are allowed.

The parade theme is “Pop” in honor of Pop Art, the revolutionary art movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Children and families are invited to dress in costume and decorate bicycles or wagons to celebrate the theme. Pop Art is known for its bold, graphic style, and vibrant primary colors, featuring iconic artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Richard Hamilton, as well as local talents Walter Anderson, George Ohr, and Dusti Bonge.

Applications are distributed through Biloxi schools and available at the Biloxi Visitors Center, 1050 Beach Blvd., Biloxi Parks & Recreation office, 377 Hiller Dr., Biloxi Recreation centers, and the Gulf Coast Carnival office and Coastal Mississippi Mardi Gras Museum, 792 Howard Ave. The forms can also be downloaded from the city’s website at biloxi.ms.us/pr.

Applications must be returned to the child’s school or the Biloxi Parks & Recreation office by Friday, Jan. 30. For more information, contact the Biloxi Parks & Recreation office weekdays by calling 228-388-7170.
