Biloxi Cemetery tour begin Sunday

The 19th annual Old Biloxi Cemetery Tour, which takes place on Sunday, Oct. 19, and Tuesday, Oct. 21, will spotlight Biloxi restaurants and other food-related businesses.

“Food for the Souls” will be the theme of this year’s event set in the Old Biloxi Cemetery along Irish Hill. The event, organized by Preserve Biloxi, offers an in-depth look at Biloxi’s restaurants and other food-related businesses from the past.

Reenactors will appear in character, telling visitors about the restaurant and food business from their time period. The performances are continuous, meaning those attending can drop by anytime between 2 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, and 5 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, to see all re-enactments.

– Gladys Ladner & Victor Ladner (Ladner’s Fisherman’s Wharf), portrayed by Kathe Newcomb

– Devoy Colbet & Hugo Rungo (Geno’s Pizza House and Hugo’s), portrayed by Chris Griffin and Brennan Prince

-Andrew Puzz (Electrik Maid, Klein’s, and Quality bakeries), portrayed by Wayne Stephens,

-Wayne Milles (Milles Sno Cones), portrayed by Boyce Deaton,

-Lucien Brown, Sr. (Mary Mahoney’s), portrayed by Eric Funches,

-Vincent “Vicci” Rosetti (Rosetti’s), portrayed by Damien Rosetti,

-Jacob Stanovich (Stanovich Grocery), portrayed by David Delk,

-Jacobina Gilich (Foodland Supermarket), portrayed by Andrea Gilich,

-Mary Migues (Mary’s Drive Inn), portrayed by Brandy Mills,

-Inez Thomas (Inez Café), portrayed by Toi Smith, and

Joseph & Jessie Baricev (Baricev’s), portrayed by Cree Cantrell and Mollie McCarroll.

This year’s tour will take place at the Old Biloxi Cemetery, which is located at 1166 Irish Hill Drive. Parking will be available in and around the cemetery, along Irish Hill, and in the adjacent parking lot of the Biloxi Elks Lodge.

Event goers should enter the cemetery and find volunteers handing out programs with maps. Event-goers are encouraged to wear light, comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Refreshments will be served on both days.

The 19th annual Old Biloxi Cemetery Tour features a cast, known as the “Not Ready for the Afterlife Players,” that comprises Little Theater actors from the area and actual descendants of those being portrayed. The event is presented by Preserve Biloxi, a collaborative organization dedicated to preserving the rich cultural history of Biloxi. It consists of the City of Biloxi, Biloxi Main Street, the Biloxi Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast National Heritage Area.

News & notes: Weekend preview, traffic

Weekend preview: Here are some of the events happening in Biloxi this weekend; The Harley Half Marathon takes place along Beach Boulevard on Saturday and Sunday. Also on Saturday and Sunday, the Fall Muster at Beauvoir. There is the Annual Mississippi Coastal Cleanup along the West Beach Boardwalk and the Lighthouse area on Saturday; and Llamapalooza is happening at Fly Llama Brewing on Saturday. Over at the casinos, Jeffrey Osborne performs Friday night at the IP Casino Resort Spa, Demetri Martin will be at the Beau Rivage, and Katt Williams performs at the MS Coast Coliseum.
