Caillavet crossing, Porter to close temporarily

Two north-south thoroughfares, Caillavet Street and Porter Avenue, and the western end of Division Street will be closed beginning next week.

CSX will close the Caillavet Street rail crossing from Tuesday until Friday to allow crews to upgrade the crossing. The 12,000 motorists who use the Caillavet crossing should detour to Reynoir Street, a block to the east.

Porter Avenue between Judge Sekul Avenue and Division Street will close for two weeks, beginning Monday and re-opening Sept. 6. The Porter work will take place near the small bridge just south of Division. Porter Avenue carries about 2,500 cars a day north of CSX. Motorists should use Forrest Avenue as a detour.

Division Street, where work on the new Keesler gateway continues, also will be closed between Forrest and Porter from Monday through Sept. 6.
