The city’s August newsletter arrives in home and businesses across the city in the next day or two, and it’s chockfull of news about a variety of major projects and the most advertising in the newsletter’s 18 months.
BNews Monthly for August, at 20 pages, includes a status report on East Biloxi infrastructure (Oscar Renda says Thanksgiving for all major work to be completed); salutes to the heroes of Camille on the storm’s 50th anniversary; background on the Gold Star Families Memorial, the idea of an East Biloxi convention center and Census 2020; a month-long calendar of events including the Biloxi Shuckers; a look back at the origins of Edgewater Mall; and the month-long schedule for the city’s new TV channel, BTV.
The newsletter is supported by a host of civic-minded advertising partners. Batter up! Biloxi Night is Wednesday at MGM Park
The Biloxi Shuckers celebrate all things Biloxi this Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. when the City of Biloxi is featured as part of the minor league baseball team’s One Coast series.
Biloxi Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich, former Major Leaguer Barry Lyons and local root beer scion “Bones” Barq will toss ceremonial first pitches. Hundreds of airmen currently in training will represent Keesler Air Force Base, which has been a huge part of Biloxi since its establishment in 1941.
A highlight of the evening will be a video message from Biloxi native and Apollo 13 hero Fred Haise, and those attending the game will receive Barq’s in a Bottle.

News and notes: Weekly report, city council
The week that was: Last week, the Fire Department answered 145 calls for service, including 98 medical emergencies and one fire; the Police Department handled 2,050 calls for service; the Community Development Department issued 64 building permits with a construction valuation of nearly $1,850,000; and the Engineering Department continued to progress on projects throughout the city.
