The Biloxi Fourth of July fireworks show begins this evening at 9, fired from a barge inside Deer Island. Here’s what you need to know about the 18-minute show.
The weather: It really doesn’t matter, says Jerry Munro of the Boom-Boom Committee. The Biloxi fireworks show will be presented rain or shine.
Best viewing: The fireworks-free zone in the mile-long stretch of the beach between the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor and Oak Street provides front-row viewing. Bring a lawnchair or blanket, and be careful crossing the highway.
Traffic: If traveling from north of the Bay of Biloxi, exit I-110 at Bayview. Take a left on Bayview and follow Back Bay Boulevard until it ends at Oak Street. Turn south on Oak and travel to U.S. 90. To the right is the fireworks-free zone. Also, remember there are lane closures on U.S. 90 at Caillavet and on Irish Hill. Howard Avenue is also closed just east of Porter.
Parking: No parking is allowed in the center median of U.S. 90. Park only in parking bays. Do not block sidewalks and respect private property.
On the radio: The Biloxi fireworks show will be set to music on Bob 105.9 FM.
From Police Chief John Miller: “We’re asking people to be patient when going to and leaving the fireworks show. There’s a lot of traffic – motorists and pedestrians – before and after the show. There’s no need to rush. Be careful. Motorists should watch for pedestrians and vice versa. Have a great time, but remember to be aware of your surroundings.”
