Former and current mayors and city councilmembers, past and present police chiefs from Biloxi and surrounding areas, and representatives of the FBI, Keesler Air Force Base and the Gulf Coast hospitality industry joined family and friends Friday night to mark the end of Rodney McGilvary’s milestone career with the Biloxi Police Department.
Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich declared the day “Rodney McGilvary Day” in honor of the man who served nearly 40 years with the Biloxi Police Department and 25 years as a leader in the state and local Special Olympics movements.

‘Go-cup districts,’ LaQuinta among issues before council
Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich, taking advantage of new state legislation, will be asking the City Council on Tuesday to consider entertainment districts that wrap around the Biloxi peninsula, encompass west beach, and spotlight a section of Lorraine Road.
The proposal follows up on a state law that allows visitor-oriented cities to create “Leisure and Recreation Districts,” which some have referred to as “go-cup districts” because of relaxed alcohol-control regulations.
The entertainment districts are part of a City Council agenda that also includes an appeal by residents who want input on the LaQuinta Inn and Suites being proposed on the beachfront between Hopkins Boulevard and Seal Avenue. Also on the agenda is a proposal to again seek nearly $15 million in Tidelands grant funds to create a string of public waterfront amenities on the Biloxi peninsula.
