Second Liners Mardi Gras parade rolls Saturday

The Second Liners Mardi Gras Club will host its annual parade in downtown Biloxi on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

This year’s parade will have a “Mystical Magic of Mardi Gras” theme and will feature more than three dozen units, including seven marching bands.

The parade begins at 1 p.m. at Nichols school at the corner of Division Street and Nichols Drive. It travels west on Division to Caillavet Street, south to Esters Boulevard and ends at the Doris C. Busch Park, 645 Esters Blvd.

The Second Liners Mardi Gras Club, based in east Biloxi, began in 1993 when a group of residents decided to have a neighborhood parade, which primarily consisted of children and wagons. Over the years the annual procession has grown and several times boasts as many as 80 units of all shapes and sizes.

The organization itself also has grown, numbering dozens of members from across the Coast who, throughout the year, sponsor, support and provide family-oriented community activities designed to promote a sense of community.

Elsewhere this weekend: The Annual Gulf Coast Winter Classic Horse Show takes place at the Harrison County Fairgrounds, and at the casinos, Josh Turner and Core Smith each perform at the IP, My Friday Valentine and Lifehouse will each be at the Hard Rock, The Guess Who will be a the Golden Nugget, and Penn & Teller will all be at the Beau Rivage.
