City workers to report Monday; campers have day off

All City of Biloxi employees are expected to report to work at their usual time Monday morning, Mayor A.J. Holloway announced Sunday, and all city offices and facilities will be open at their normal time

The city’s summer camp program, however, will not be open until Tuesday, when cafeteria workers are scheduled to return to work.

Holloway said he appreciated the cooperation of residents over the weekend, particularly as the threat from Hurricane Dennis became more imminent.

A countywide curfew and mandatory evacuations were lifted at 6 p.m.

The Biloxi Police Department will continue its enhanced patrols of city streets and neighborhoods through the evening, according to Police Chief Bruce Dunagan, whose officers were on 12-hour work shifts to provide an increased presence on city streets.

“I think over the next few days we’re going to see news reports showing just how destructive this storm was, and how much of a serious threat we faced,” Holloway said. “For now, we need to keep our eyes on the diminishing wind and rain we might have tonight, and hope we don’t have any serious flooding on the rivers.”
