Performs a variety of supervisory automotive mechanical, repair, and maintenance work in a City Police garage.

Work involves planning and scheduling the preventive maintenance program, troubleshooting mechanical problems, and directing and evaluating the work of automotive mechanics involved in the repair, maintenance, and overhaul of all police vehicles and other automotive equipment.

Considerable initiative and independent judgment are required in planning and supervising the work of mechanics and helpers. Work is reviewed through inspection, examination of records, and evaluation of the mechanical condition of the equipment fleet.

Responsible for overseeing the fleet, overseeing the purchase and stock of needed parts and equipment, and assisting with the annual budget to accommodate day to day operations with the garage and fleet. 

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent; certification and/or coursework in auto mechanics preferred; and Five (5) years of experience in mechanical supervision and automotive repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have valid Mississippi Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
