The duties of the Evidence Technician will include, but are not limited, to the following: Intakes, stores, transfers, and disposes of Evidence obtained from officers, investigators, outside agencies. Assists in maintaining all evidence packaging locations (cleans areas and restocks evidence packaging supplies). Assists to ensure proper security functionality and maintenance of evidence facilities (key and lock checks, alarm checks, proper alarm procedures and operation). Assists with maintaining the evidence log books for the evidence room and temporary holding areas. Must be able to pass random drug and alcohol tests. Must be able to work occasional weekends. Must be able to maintain an “On Call” status. Able to read/write. Able to operate a computer and use/learn basic software programs. Able to lift/move items and place items on a shelf.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment; considerable knowledge of property and evidence maintenance and disposition practices. Knowledgeable in the operation of most of the software, tools, equipment and vehicles listed below. Ability to research and follow applicable laws, ordinances, departmental policies and procedures, and standard operating procedures of the Evidence Room. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, and supervisors. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Education and Experience:

Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Must pass and maintain a clear criminal background check and be able to legally handle firearms.

Must be able to pass pre-employment CVSA screening. Must possess/maintain a valid Mississippi Driver’s License.
