Performs a variety of routine and complex work in the inspection of existing housing and structures, as well as, enforcement of ordinances regulating zoning and environmental nuisances. Enforces a variety of codes, including IBC, City Codes, FEMA flood compliance, and others.  Issues correction notices, citations and stop work orders, when necessary. Assists in researching problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential buildings, building construction and building codes compliance.  Responds to complex and sensitive building issues. Participates with Community Rating System (CRS) Coordinator as assigned. Inspects buildings and structures for compliance with decisions made by the Architectural Historic Review Committees’ (AHRC) decisions. Any/all other duties as assigned.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent, supplemented by two (2) years of post-secondary college or technical instruction in building technology, construction, management, mechanical, electrical, plumbing or building construction; and Five (5) years of experience in general construction and related fields; or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year for year basis.

Special Requirements

Must have a valid state driver’s license or ability to obtain one prior to employment. One or more IBC Certifications, including but not limited to plans examiner, combination inspector, etc.
